MisterFPGA is incredibly flexible, and powerful enough to emulate computers from the 70’s, 80s and 90s. Things this flexible can sometimes be difficult to set up, however MisterFPGA have made this very simple.
I’d recommend using the Mr Fusion script to set everything up. This is a starter image that you write to an SD using pretty much any OS.
Put this in your DE10, and allow it to do its stuff. You’ll then see the default screen allowing you to select something to run – but you need to get something to run!
The first thing to do is make it easy for you to get files onto your MisterFPGA. Enable Windows Networking by enabling SAMBA. Press F9, log in with root and password 1, then
mv /media/fat/linux/_samba.sh /media/fat/linux/samba.sh
Reboot, From your other machine, browse to //mister on your network. You’ll need to provide login details, which by default are root/1 again.
Once installed, you need your cores. The very easiest way to do this is to use the fantastic Update_all script from theEpsylon Follow the instructions there, and then run the script on your DE10. It will take some time for the first time: I’d recommend you have:
- Main MiSTER updater
- Jotego cores updater
- BIOS getter
- MAME and HBMAME getter
- Names.TXT updater
- Arcade organiser
After this, you’ll be frankly astonished at what is now available to run. The arcades in particular are astonishing. Do spend time there – but not yet!
You’ve got your cores, they’re up to date. Time to set up Minimig!
